46 masterpieces from 27 public and private collections around the world are presented at the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the State Museum of Fine Arts. A.S. Pushkin. The opening of the Museum of Fine Arts named after Emperor Alexander 111 took place on May 31, 1912. It is this significant date that the exhibition "Imaginary Museum" is dedicated to - the largest and most unusual project of the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin. Borrowing for the name of the exhibition the title of the work of the same name by the French writer and culturologist of the 20th century Andre Malraux, the museum enriched its permanent exhibition with the missing masterpieces from the collections of the largest state museums in the world and private collections, with which the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin has long-standing friendships and partnerships. These are the art collections of Dresden and the State Museums of Berlin, the Louvre Museum, the Orsay Museum and the Pompidou Center, the Tate Gallery and the Royal Academy in London, the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisz Museums, the State Hermitage Museum. These are also museums with which partnerships have been established relatively recently: the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Carrara Academy in Bergamo, the National Museum in Stockholm, the National Museum in Warsaw, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, other museums and private collections .

As I.A. Antonova, director of the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin, “when inviting our colleagues to participate in the exhibition, we wanted, first of all, to present our Museum as a collection of monuments of world art, as a meeting place and dialogue of cultures. Therefore, we placed the monuments that arrived to us not in a single space, but in the halls of the Museum, corresponding to them in time and origin. Special efforts were made to show the eras and masters that are not in our collections.”

For the first time in Moscow, paintings by Bosch and Moroni. Works by Velazquez, Gainsborough, Holbein, Delvaux and Dix, Dürer and Carpaccio that are not in the permanent exhibition of the Museum. A great rarity is the painting by Klimt, which arrived at the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin from Vienna. Interesting sculptures by Giacometti and Calder. Paintings by Frans Hals, El Greco, Memling, Lenin brothers, Rene Magritte. These works enrich the permanent exhibition of the two buildings of the Museum and allow the viewer to appreciate the collection of the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin in the global context, take a fresh look at the history of fine art presented in the Museum.

The exhibition "Imaginary Museum" is a unique project implemented by the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin, has become a real gift for all art lovers.
