The well-known Moldavian architect Valentin Aleksandrovich Voitsekhovsky, an honored worker of arts, a professor, made a huge contribution to the architecture of his native republic and not only it. Pole by origin, the son of a simple builder and dressmaker - a seamstress, my father was born in 1909 in the village of Kruglyak, Samokhvolovichsky volost, Minsk district. When he was only 3 months old, the family moved to the fertile lands of Bessarabia, to the city of Soroki. Valentin's parents, whose ancestors were simple peasants, could not even imagine what a famous person their son would become ... The desire to become an architect, the hope of acquiring this status profession at that time, the ability to withstand all sorts of difficulties at all stages of its conquest, marked my father not only in while studying in Bucharest at the Academy of Architecture, but also throughout his professional career, both as an architect and a scientist, specialist and researcher of the architecture of the medieval period… My father made a huge contribution to the restoration of the region destroyed by the war, since the new stage of his activity as an architect in the cities of Chisinau, Soroca, Balti was not without his most active participation. The central street of Chisinau is decorated with its famous buildings, which are distinguished by their volumetric and spatial solution using traditional material - a cauldron and using the national architectural tradition. Constantly combining architectural design with the restoration of cultural monuments, V.A. Voitsekhovsky comes to the conclusion that his activities should be of a research nature. A number of scientific articles written back in the early 1950s, speeches with reports within the walls of the Academy of Sciences and at the department of the Polytechnic Institute of Chisinau and, finally, the defense of a dissertation at the Academy of Arts in Leningrad in 1965 on the topic "Fortress in Soroca" served as a great stimulus and groundwork for a more in-depth study of this problem. The contribution of V.A. Voitsekhovsky in the field of pedagogical creativity. He stood at the origins of the creation of the architectural department at the Polytechnic Institute of Chisinau in 1965, lecturing on the history of architecture, conducting design classes with students, he combined scientific research with creative pedagogical activity as an educator of a whole generation of Moldovan architects. This book is based on materials from the family archive, partly reflecting the work of my father in the pre-war period in Chisinau, Bucharest and Balti district. But the main attention is paid to the creative activity of V.A. Voitsekhovsky after 1944, when the big war stopped and Moldova began to recover from the wounds and destruction inflicted by this war.
