The dictionary contains a description of the Old Moscow language and life (the period from the beginning of the 19th century to the 20s of the 20th century). The main attention is paid to the last thirty years of the 19th century. The dictionary describes the bygone realities of Old Moscow life, provides an interpretation and explanation of obsolete and outdated phenomena, objects and words. The dictionary was compiled using both well-known sources (the works of A. Chekhov, A. Ostrovsky, P. Boborykin, I. Shmelev, V. Gilyarovsky), and literature that is unknown and sometimes inaccessible to the general reader. The dictionary significantly expands our understanding of the everyday life of old Moscow. In this edition, in comparison with the first, the necessary corrections, clarifications and additions have been made.

The book is intended primarily for a general reader interested in the history of Russia and, in particular, Moscow, but it will also be useful to specialists - philologists, including Russian teachers language and literature, historians, journalists, writers, translators.
