Mikhail Nikolaevich Zagoskin is an outstanding Russian prose writer and playwright. The novel "Yuri Miloslavsky, or the Russians in 1612" is a real bestseller of historical prose of the 19th century. A.S. Pushkin wrote in a review of the novel: “How lively, how entertaining are the scenes of ancient Russian life! How much truth of good-natured gaiety is in the depiction of the characters of Kirsha, Alexei Burnash, Fedka Khomyak, Pan Kopychinsky, Father Eremey!” The historical authenticity of the description of the “Time of Troubles” and the liberation struggle of the Russian people against foreign invaders at the beginning of the 17th century under the leadership of Minin and Pozharsky, the liveliness of the characters, examples of the honor and valor of the heroes, and today leave the novel among the most interesting works of Russian literature.
