Anatoly Borisovich Mariengof (1897-1962), poet, prose writer, playwright, memoirist, was a prominent figure in the literary life of Russia in the first half of our century. One of the founders of the poetic group of imagists, which had a certain influence on the development of Russian poetry in the 10-20s. He had a close personal and creative friendship with Sergei Yesenin. The author of more than a dozen plays that were staged in the country's leading theaters, numerous collections of poetry, two novels - "The Cynics" and "Catherine" - and an autobiographical trilogy.
The memoir prose of Anatoly Mariengof remained unknown to the reader for many years. It was then published in parts, and was never published in a single volume. But he considered the three parts of his memoirs ("A Novel Without Lies", "My Age, My Friends and Girlfriends" and "This is for You, Descendants!") as a single whole and even gave this book, which did not take place during his lifetime, the title - "Immortal trilogy". In this collection, Mariengof's memoirs are presented to the reader as the author intended. And the brilliant style, keen observation, vivid imagery of the language, stories about legendary personalities in the history of our culture (Yesenin, Meyerhold, Kachalov, Stanislavsky and many others) truly allow us to consider Mariengof’s trilogy immortal.

(Dietmar Gerhard Stüdemann)
