More info

Vladimir Grzhitsky (1895-1974) is one of the oldest writers in Ukraine. The most popular were his novels “Into the Wide World” and “Great Expectations”, which were repeatedly published in his native language and translated into Russian (“Soviet Writer”, 1966).

V. Grzhitsky’s new book includes novels "Oprishki" and "Karmalyuk". In the novel “Oprishki” the author talks about the insurrectionary movement of peasants against serf owners in the 30-40s of the eighteenth century in Transcarpathia, Western Ukraine and Bukovina. This movement was led by the national hero Oleksa Dovbush.

“Karmalyuk” is a novel about the peasant struggle against the feudal landowners in Volyn, Kiev region and Podolia under the leadership of Ustim Karmalyuk in 1830-1835.
