This monograph is devoted to a topic, at first glance, a local one. In fact, we are talking about a historical and cultural phenomenon, the knowledge of which is necessary for a correct understanding of the movement of mankind along the path on which separate centers of civilization, separated by previously insurmountable spaces, became part of a single ecumene, and their cultures merged into the general flow of human culture.< br /> Central Mexico played one of the leading roles in the birth of the Latin American historical and cultural community. The art of the inhabitants of America has been developing for many millennia without noticeable impulses from outside. It is all the more interesting that the main directions of its evolution turned out to be the same as at the corresponding stages in the history of Europe, Africa and Asia. The author begins the study of the roots of ancient Mexican culture with the resettlement of Paleolithic hunters in the New World and brings it to the eve of the Conquista. This allows a historically convincing explanation of the main forms and plots of the art of the region. Their analysis is carried out in comparison with typologically close phenomena of the artistic culture of the Old and New Worlds.
The phenomenon called the art of these historical epochs was, in essence, one of the sides of the syncretic complex of ideas, in which mythological and artistic reflection were inseparable unity reality. The author seeks to talk about this art as a special language that figuratively reveals the mythological worldview of the world that created it. And, if possible, emphasize those of its properties that can be qualified as a guarantee of the future self-determination of artistic consciousness.
Recommended for culturologists, art critics, historians, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the history of art and religion.
