The history of the Chiefs of the General Staff is the history of the war between Germany and the USSR. Hitler, when choosing a new boss, sought to settle on a person who would not in any way remind him of his predecessor. Therefore, the generals who held the post of Chief of the General Staff were very different. Their fates also developed differently: of the five whose biographies are given in this book (Ludwig Beck, Franz Halder, Kurt Zeitzler, Heinz Guderian, Hans Krebs), two committed suicide, and three calmly survived the war and were never involved in responsibility and did not suffer any punishment. But no matter how different these generals were, they all had one goal, which they tried to realize to the best of their ability - to achieve victory for German weapons and, above all, in the East.
