Chaim Herzog (1918 - 1997) - Israeli statesman, was Ambassador to the UN and the 6th President of Israel. Chaim Herzog's long military career began during World War II, he served in the British army in Northwestern Europe. After the end of the war, he twice headed Israel's military intelligence: in 1948-50. and 1959-62. In 1950 - 1954 The Duke was the military attaché at the Israeli embassy in Washington. In 1967, the Duke was appointed the first military governor of Judea and Samaria, and later served as Israel's representative to the UN. After completing his military service with the rank of major general, the Duke quickly gained fame as a brilliant military and political observer. His publications in the press and regular radio appearances in Israel and the United States of America brought him worldwide fame.
