In 1967 the book "The Life of Remarkable Violinists" was published. Following its release, the publishing house and the author received a number of letters from readers asking why the book does not contain biographies of Jan Kubelik, Jozsef Szigeti, Isaac Stern, and others. This book fills, at least partially, these gaps; in addition, it is supplemented with essays on some outstanding cellists. The nature of the second book is similar to the first: it is designed for the general reader. The performing art is all the greater, the more human it is - the author wanted to express this truth by creating biographical sketches about the masters of the bow art. In different eras, various creative tendencies, directions, styles arose, but invariably their effectiveness was determined by the degree of ideological and spiritual wealth. Even the value of virtuoso art lay in the breadth and depth of displaying the passions and feelings of a person, and not in the "effects" of instrumentalism. At the same time, it is difficult to imagine that a truly outstanding performer was not at the same time a great personality, a bright personality. That is why, in the proposed essays, the author tried to show, as far as possible, the lively features, character and creative image of each of the wonderful violin and cello players.
