A rare Berlin lifetime edition of Anna Akhmatova
In the "New Poems" section, 18 new poems have been published that were not in the first edition. This book was published jointly by the Petropolis and Alkonost publishing houses in Berlin in October 1922
Portrait of A. Akhmatova by Yuri Annenkov.
"Anno Domini" - the fifth book of poems by Anna Akhmatova, completes the first period of the poet's work (1907-1925) and in some way foreshadows the poems that she was going to write in the second half of her life. The original title of the book was "Anno Domini MCMXXI", which means "In the Year of the Lord 1921" in Latin. Almost all of the poems in this book were written in 1921. Subsequently, the number of poems more than doubled, as it included works from the period from 1913 to 1919 and 1922 - "Lamentation", "Whispers: I will not wish", excerpts from "The Tale of the Black Ring" and a number of others. Criticism met the book on in different ways. G. Lelevich accused Akhmatova of "mystical nationalism", M. Kuzmin, Yu. Tynyanov, M. Shaginyan saw in this book "rehashings of the old Akhmatova style".
