The book by Pulitzer Prize winner George Kennan, a prominent American diplomat, ambassador to the USSR from 1954 to 1963, analyst, Sovietologist, author of numerous works on American diplomacy and foreign policy, tells about the difficult situation in Europe from the point of view of development period of world history: the eve of the Second World War, major military conflicts, the post-war redistribution of Europe and the confrontation between the two political systems. The author presents his opinion on what was happening, gives vivid, although somewhat controversial portraits of Joseph Stalin and Theodore Roosevelt, other prominent political figures, introduces personal forecasts for the development of Russia after the war, makes curious sketches from the life of Stalin's entourage and members of foreign diplomatic missions.
