The collection includes the stories "Small Barrier", "Millstones of Glory" and short stories. The works collected in the book are, as it were, a slice of our history. "Vernensky stories" are devoted to the formation of Soviet power in Semirechye; "Small Barrier" is a book about the heroic feat of Soviet artillerymen and infantrymen during the Great Patriotic War: the story "Millstones of Glory" and the story "Fyodor Ivanovich" are about love and about those difficult post-war years when Soviet people had to restore the country's economy destroyed by the war .
