“Thou shalt not kill” is a work by the representative of the Silver Age of Russian literature, the founder of Russian expressionism L. N. Andreev (1871-1919).
The author wrote the play “Thou Shalt Not Kill” (1913) “in two weeks.” The plot was based on one of the trials that he witnessed when he worked as a court reporter in his youth.
The playwright explained his principle as follows: “Remaining an opponent of pure realism, I thickened the colors, brought some positions and characters to to the extreme, almost to the point of caricature or caricature, he introduced a fair amount of “faces” and even black masks.”
