Kalinnikov Iosif Fedorovich (1890–1934) was a Silver Age poet, writer and ethnographer. Since 1922 in exile. In childhood and adolescence, he observed the monastic life of the Beloberezhskaya Hermitage a lot, collected rich impressions, which he later reflected in the novel Relics, where he focused his attention mainly on the “wrong side” of monastic life. The novel was soon declared pornography and a counter-revolutionary libel in the USSR, the church environment took up arms against the author, and the book was ordered to be removed from all libraries
