The colorful, many-sided Moscow of the late 19th and early 20th centuries literally comes to life before readers. As if in reality, we see violent merchant revelry - and go into the mysterious shops of famous antique dealers, together with riotous, daring bandits explore the dangerous nooks and crannies of the infamous Khitrovka - and pursue them with the famous Moscow policemen, get acquainted with the ancient Neglinka catacombs - and observe the noise and bustle of the colorful Okhotny Ryad. "Moscow and Muscovites" is a chronicle of the life of Russian "dumb" - shopkeepers, cab drivers, students, petty officials, hairdressers, firefighters and even thieves from the famous Khitrovka.
