Twilight Land is the first book by JM Coetzee (1974). It consists of 2 parts, original stories, artistically balanced, and, as always with Coetzee, poignant.

The first is a story about how a psychologist goes crazy and invents a terrible project to win the Vietnam War.

The second is the story of a borderland Boer who gives vent to his irrepressible desire to take revenge on the local African tribe of the Hottentots. A gold coin from the time of the English King James I (18th century) and the knowledge accumulated by science of the 20th century, whimsically combined in the plot, complete the author's story about the extreme manifestations of human absurdities and horrors that surround a person's existence.
