The historical novel "Sons of the Don Steppes" is one of his best works. The novel shows the struggle of the Don Cossacks, led by the hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, Ataman Matvey Platov, against the Napoleonic hordes. In an autobiographical story "The Story of My Youth" the writer showed the formation of a young man who went through the school of life in the Red Guard, tempered and matured in the fight against the enemies of the October Revolution. The one-volume book brought to the attention of the reader also includes stories about the courage and heroism of the Soviet people, shown during the Great Patriotic War.
