Nikifor [Alexey Mikhailovich Bazhanov] (1832-1895) - spiritual writer, archimandrite and abbot of the Vysokopetrovsky Monastery in Moscow. “Popular Biblical Encyclopedia” is the main work of the author, in which incomprehensible or obscure expressions, names of geographical places, events and heroes of ancient history, and most importantly, the main provisions of the Holy Scriptures are explained in alphabetical order. Interesting historical comments are given on the text of the Holy Scriptures, various versions of sources regarding certain events and characters are given, attempts are made to rationally criticize them in order to find out the true development of biblical history. The encyclopedia is comprehensive and very informative.

Encyclopedia articles cover all areas of biblical knowledge. The book provides biographies of all the people in the Bible and explains the theological terms necessary for understanding the Holy Scriptures. The book is intended for a wide range of readers.

The work of Archimandrite Nicephorus contributed better to the understanding of the Bible than any other auxiliary literature. In the Russian language, in the field of popular biblical encyclopedic reference books in our time, there are no books comparable in quality and completeness to the work of Archimandrite Nikephoros. The book is in very good condition. However, there is slight yellowing of the pages from time to time, the binding is glued at the back (see photo), the endpaper is glued to the cover.
