Before becoming a prominent crime writer, Jean-Christophe Grange worked as a journalist, writing for a number of magazines around the world, then became a freelance reporter. He later founded his own news agency. Granger’s debut book, “The Flight of the Storks,” was published in 1994, but remained virtually unnoticed, which cannot be said about his second novel, “Purple Rivers,” which was published three years later. Despite the fact that its appearance on the market was not accompanied by advertising hype, the novel gained popularity and became one of the bestsellers. Based on this book in 2000, Mathieu Kassovitz directed a film of the same name (in Russian release it was called “Crimson Rivers”), where the main roles were played by Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel. A small university town in the Alps is gripped by horror: heinous crimes follow one after another. The police find mutilated corpses either in a rock crevice, or in the thickness of a glacier, or under the roof of a house. Detective Nieman decides to stop this savagery at all costs, but while pursuing the criminal, he comes across more and more victims...
