Wandering through the souls. Philosophical treatise. 412 p.

Shestov, Lev Isaakovich (real name - Shvartsman), 1866 - 1938. Famous Russian existentialist philosopher and writer. He graduated from the law faculty of Kyiv University (1889). In 1895-1914 he lived mainly in Switzerland, from 1914 - in Moscow, from 1918 - in Kyiv, from 1920 - in Paris. Contents: Science and free research (instead of a preface); Part One - Revelations of Death; Overcoming self-evidence (On the centenary of the birth of F. M. Dostoevsky); At the Last Judgment (Last works of Tolstoy); Part two - Boldness about humility; Part Three - Toward a Philosophy of History (Spinoza, Pascal, Plotinus, on Ethics and Anthology). In his books, full of paradoxes and aphorisms, Shestov rebelled against the limitations of scientific knowledge and the oppression of generally accepted norms, contrasting them with intuitive research and an independent path of faith, unique for each individual. Indicating this path, on the pages of the book `On the Scales of Job` Lev Shestov `travels through the souls` of great writers (Dostoevsky, Tolstoy) and philosophers of the past (Spinoza, Pascal, Plotinus). After all, according to the thinker, “great people are the most interesting to study because they are above all accusations ... If we speak of ordinary people with condescension ... then we approach great people directly and are not afraid to name all their features and properties by real names`.
