Written mainly in trimeters, lyrical parts in hexameters. Drosilla and Charikles meet at the Dionysian festivities, fall in love at first sight and escape. On the way they come to the wild tribes of the Parthians. Charicles pretends to be Drosilla's brother, and the Parthian prince Klein, who has fallen in love with Drosilla, tries to use Charicles to achieve the girl's reciprocity. Then the Arabs attack the Parthians, and Clinias dies in a fight with them. The Arabs take the young people away as captives, but Drosilla, caught on a tree branch, falls from the wagon into a cliff. Charicles considers her dead. From this place, the adventures of Drosilla and Charikles are separated, and after many twists and turns they meet by chance in a remote village, in the house of an old peasant woman, Marillida. The final episode of a happy wedding follows
