The early Christian Church Fathers of the 1st and 2nd centuries laid the foundation for patristic writing - the most authoritative commentary on sacred books of the Old and New Testaments. Although not all the opinions of the Holy Fathers were subsequently accepted by the Church, their creations form, together with the decrees of the ecumenical councils of St. Tradition constitutes one of the primary sources of the teachings of the Church. Having developed mainly in the first millennium AD, the era preceding the division of the Eastern and Western Churches, patristic literature is a precious testimony to their thousand-year unity and continues to be their common heritage in our era. Even now Christians of the East and West constantly turn to him. We give selected pages of the early Fathers of the Church in the translation of Archpriest P. Preobrazhensky (with the exception of fragments of St. Melito of Sardis, discovered in 1972 and translated by us into Russian) and reproduce them in a phototypical way.
