The joint history of Russia and the Baltic states goes back more than 10 centuries and goes back to the time when the Baltic, Slavic and Finno-Ugric peoples living on the Baltic lands peacefully coexisted within the statehood of the early feudal Russian principalities. Later, when German missionaries and merchants arrived here, the process of mixing Baltic, Finno-Ugric, Russian-Slavic and Germanic substrates began, giving rise to a unique socio-cultural phenomenon called "Ostseians" or Baltics. This group of the population, which occupied the highest rungs of the social hierarchy in the Baltic states, became one of the sources for replenishing the state cadres of Russia. The phenomenon of the Baltics - they faithfully served the Russian fatherland. The first chapter of the book is devoted to the long historical process of the formation of a special subculture of the Baltics. Many of the old Baltic families, which gave rise to a whole galaxy of prominent statesmen of Russia, can be considered as Russian, according to their ethnic roots, as German or Scandinavian. The second chapter provides information about the emergence of the subculture of Russian Germans with an illustration of the process on the example of the famous families Manstein and Schmemann. The third chapter presents historical and biographical portraits of the ministers of Imperial Russia from among the Baltic families, who made a significant contribution to the all-Russian state building and to the history of the Russian Baltic. Many books, memoirs and publications have been published about these figures. Therefore, the author set himself the task of informing the reader of little-known or previously unpublished data about these figures, about their genealogy, ancestors and relatives, and about those aspects of life that are not known to a wide range of readers. The fate of these people serve as a good illustration of the centuries-old relationship between Russia and the Baltic States, which was and remains part of the Eastern European civilizational space and is in organic unity with the Russian World. The publication publishes an Alphabetical index of names mentioned in the book, which will allow the reader to quickly find information of interest to him and use the book as a reference.
