This publication includes the works of two authors from the history of Russian diplomacy in its Baltic vector and about the Baltic people, who made a significant contribution to the formation and development of the Russian diplomatic service. Among these outstanding people are many representatives of old Baltic families, as well as Russian families associated with the Baltics by origin, family ties or biography. Of the galaxy of prominent Russian diplomats, one could name three or four dozen names of the Baltics. Six of them became state chancellors-ministers of foreign affairs who headed the department for foreign relations of the Russian state: Count Nikolai Petrovich Rumyantsev, Prince Alexander Andreevich Bezborodko, Prince Platon Alexandrovich Zubov, Prince Alexander Mikhailovich Gorchakov, Baron Andrei Yakovlevich Budberg, but also the first Minister of Foreign Affairs USSR Georgy Vasilievich Chicherin, who was born in the family of a Russian nobleman and diplomat, and on the maternal side is a direct relative of the representatives of the famous ancient Baltic families Meyendorff and Stackelberg.
