Description This edition includes three stories by the greatest German writer Heinrich Böhl. These works belong to different periods of his work. The story TRAIN ARRIVALS ON SCHEDULE was written in 1949, it brought recognition and fame to the young Beul. The second story, THE VALLEY OF RUMBLING HOOVES, was published in 1957. The third - UNAUTHORIZED ABSENCE - is one of the last works of Beul. Different eras in the life of Germany are described in these stories - the years of fascism and war, and the years of the so-called "economic miracle". Heroes of different ages act in them - a young soldier, three teenagers and a middle-aged man who went through the cruel trials of the Nazi barracks and post-war stagnation. But no matter what and who Bel writes about, he always remains an anti-fascist, a fighter against militarism and revanchism, a merciless critic of the norms of bourgeois life and morality. These three stories are full of bitterness and sarcasm, and at the same time they are lyrical and imbued with love for ordinary people.
