Ossian, or more correctly Oisin, is a legendary Celtic bard of the 3rd century, on whose behalf the poems of James Macpherson and his imitators were written. In the mid-18th century, James Macpherson published prose translations into English several poems that, according to him, belonged to the 3rd century Ossian. The famous hoax of the Scottish poet Macpherson, which gained enormous popularity in all European literature of the Romantic era. The additions contain works by Russian poets written under the influence of Ossian's poems. As for the content of the poems and their poetic structure, the poems immediately after their publication aroused, in particular, lively and even violent interest in Russia. Just look at the section ``Ossian in Russian poetry`` in the appendix to this book. Here, among the authors of transcriptions of poems into Russian, as well as independent works on the themes of Ossian’s poems, we will see the names of A.S. Pushkin, V.A. Zhukovsky, D.V. Venitinov, N.I. Gnedich and many others.
