Description
A novel about the difficulties of the partisan life of teenagers on an equal basis with adults. The strongest, bravest and most savvy of them became scouts, messengers...
In the spring of 1943, during the offensive of our troops near Belgorod, the division in which Alexander Voinov was located met
a group of partisans. The partisans successfully operated behind enemy lines, and now
they have joined forces with the troops of the Soviet Army. Among them were
several children - boys and girls - about twelve or thirteen years old.
In those harsh years, many teenagers joined the partisan
detachments. When the opportunity arose, they were sent to the mainland.
However, this was not always possible, and the children had to share
the difficulties of partisan life on an equal basis with adults. The strongest,
brave and savvy of them became scouts, messengers,
participated in partisan combat operations. Such were the guys
whom Alexander Voinov met near Belgorod. He wrote down their
stories, and subsequently created the novel “The Brave Ones,” dedicated to the young
partisans.
In addition to this novel, A. Voinov wrote “Stories about a General
Vatutine", the story "Five Days" and other works.
The book is dedicated to the memory of the pioneer Hero of the Soviet Union Valya Kotik.
