Description
Bagrat Shinkuba, wrote the historical novel "The Last of the Departed".
Before us are the pages of the history of the Ubykhs - a people who have long lived in the mountains of the Western Caucasus, next to the Abkhazians and Adygs.
In 1864, succumbing to the persuasion of their own rulers and ministers of Islam and believing the promise of the Sultanate of Turkey, the Ubykhs, embarking on Turkish ships, left their homeland. Only one century has passed, and the people with a rich and courageous past disappeared from the face of the earth as a whole. Hunger, disease, forced assimilation have done their cruel deed.
The main character, Zaurkan Zolak, is the last of the departed Ubykhs. Centenary Zaurkan, distinguished by rare health, physical strength and tenacious memory, still remembered the time when his people migrated to Turkey. For almost a month, the Soviet linguist Kvadzba, who came to Turkey on a scientific trip, lives in his shack and writes down his dramatic story about the people who lost their homeland.
Translator Kozlovsky Yakov Abramovich, Simonov K.
