In the novel about Toulouse-Lautrec, he managed not only to subtly and extremely truthfully recreate the individual appearance of his hero, but also to tell about the work of a great artist with a difficult and even tragic fate. The reader experiences the artistic life of France and Paris at the end of the 19th century, when Toulouse-Lautrec’s true development as an artist began. The most striking theme of Toulouse-Lautrec’s works is the famous cabaret Moulin Rouge. In his paintings you can see famous dancers, singers, outstanding actors and actresses of that time. Toulouse-Lautrec was one of the first to seriously engage in the creation of posters, raising the genre of advertising posters to the level of high art.
