This book tells about long sailing trips and multi-day competitions of cruising and racing yachts, in which the author himself and other yachtsmen took part. From all the variety of episodes that occur during sailing, the most dramatic ones have been selected - the struggle of the yacht with the raging elements of wind and waves. The book is of interest not only to yachtsmen and people professionally associated with the sea - they will find here a lot of useful information about sailing a yacht during a storm, the causes of various accidents, etc. - but also to a wide range of readers who will be attracted by descriptions of storms based on the impressions of yachtsmen and exciting photos
Adlard Coles sailed for over 50 years. His extensive experience of sailing in stormy conditions allowed him to often win races held in strong winds and waves. In 1947 on the yacht "Coho" he became the champion of the Royal Ocean Yacht Club in terms of total points, in 1950 on the same yacht he won the Transatlantic Race, in 1957 he won in III class in the famous Fastnet race and won in total points, the title of champion of the Royal Ocean Yacht Club. In the same year, Adlard Coles was named yachtsman of the year in Great Britain.
In 1969 Coles was awarded the Royal Cruising Yacht Club medal, awarded for his contribution to the development of sailing art, and in 1971. - gold medal of the Royal Institute of Navigation. Coles has written many books in which he shares his yachting experiences with readers. The best of them is undoubtedly “Sailing in a Storm.”
