“Central Asia in the Middle Ages” is an unfinished novel by the artist, prose writer, poet, art critic, cinematographer Pavel Yakovlevich Zaltsman (1912–1985), conceived and written by him under the impression of trips to Central Asia for location shooting in the 1930s . In this edition, the first part and the plan of the second part of the novel are published for the first time, accompanied by an appendix by Elena Zaltsman and comments and an afterword by Tatyana Baskakova, as well as "Central Asian Tales" and "Central Asian Diary of 1934".
