The book by E.P. Yuvalova is dedicated to the classical material of German Gothic - the sculptural temple complexes of the first half of the 13th century in Bamberg, Freiberg, Naumburg Halberstadt, Magdeburg and a slightly later complex in the Meissen Cathedral of the 60-70s of the 13th century. The author introduces in detail the iconographic composition of these monuments and gives a convincing feel for the specificity and spatial structure of the complex architectural and sculptural synthesis in each case. Central attention is paid to the sculpture of the cathedrals in Bamberg and Naumburg, which opens and completes the development of the German school in this period. The book attaches paramount importance to the issues of stylistic connections of this school and the individual style of individual German artels.
For the first time, the reader will also find in it a detailed publication of each mentioned complex.
