Leonid Donich-Dobronravov was a successful writer, famous for his anticlerical works. The revolution of 1917 and the subsequent Red Terror deprived him of his home and forced him into exile.

Memoirs of the years of the First World War and the Revolution of 1917 were written in hot pursuit - a defencist who opposed the imperial goals of the war, an intellectual who sympathized with the revolution, but quickly lost his illusions - this is an honest and sometimes cruel in its frankness analysis of how Russian society step by step descended into chaos of violence.

L. Donich-Dobronravov was friends with Fyodor Chaliapin and Leonid Andreev, collaborated with Georgy Plekhanov, communicated with Alexander Kerensky and other famous politicians, writers and public figures. Their portraits and attitude to epoch-making events are depicted in detail and with psychological accuracy.

The book is published for the first time in Russian and is intended for everyone interested in the history of Russia.
