The book is devoted to the study of the processes of migration and emigration in the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe in the 18th–20th centuries, the peculiarities of adaptation and preservation of the national identity of emigrants and refugees. Both global (wars, political crises, etc.) and local causes of migration during the period of deep social and political transformations are analyzed.
Particular attention is paid to the movement of Russian citizens to neighboring countries of the Eastern European region after the First World War, the February and the October Revolutions and the Civil War in Russia, as a result of which large groups of both the military and civilian population, including representatives of the Russian intellectual elite, found themselves outside their homeland.
