At one time, Russia was known as the most reading country in the world - and this was no exaggeration: newspapers, thin and thick magazines were famous for millions of copies; books did not lag behind, for which circulations of 50-100 thousand copies were not uncommon. They read everywhere (this was most noticeable in the cities): in the train, on the tram, on the bus, in the subway, passengers would certainly come across with an open book or with a magazine in their hands. The popularity of such, for example, magazines as Novy Mir, Moscow, Our Contemporary was such that it was not easy to get a subscription to them.
