The EBRD commissioned A. Kurkov to compile and publish this collection of personal reflections on the “transition period” from one social model to another in the EBRD's countries of operations. Through the prism of opinions and perceptions of fifteen famous writers and essayists, he brings together different points of view on the social and economic changes that have taken place in their countries since the collapse of socialism in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In connection with the 2008 EBRD Annual Meeting in Kyiv, the Bank is pleased to publish this material, which allows you to feel the enormous significance of the historical changes that have taken place in our region of operations.
