Environmental problems are the most pressing scientific problems of our time. These include some aspects of oceanographic science. In order to study and develop the World Ocean, complex specialized oceanographic experiments are being continuously carried out, a significant part of which is of an international nature. In 1978, the author of this book took part in the largest oceanographic experiment POLIMODE, the main task of which was to study the "weather in the ocean", which, as it turned out, is of great importance for the formation of weather in general.
The author introduces the reader to oceanographic problems, research which formed the basis of the POLIMODE program, the course of accomplishing tasks during the 27th voyage of the research vessel "Akademik Kurchatov".
The pages of the book tell about the journey from Europe to the shores of America and back. The reader will be curious to learn about the unfamiliar Canary and Bermuda Islands, about the Sargasso Sea - a sea without shores, about hurricanes that originate in this area of the ocean, as well as about the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, in the waters of which most of the experiments under the POLYMODE program took place.
