Dear readers, you are holding in your hands the final fourth volume of the History of the Krasnoyarsk Territory series. It is dedicated to the history of sports in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the history of the development and formation of sports, and the modern sports life of the region. In fact, sport is a special kind of activity that combines physical and intellectual principles. It improves the body, strengthens the spirit and develops the mind. Sports activity has been an integral part of human life since ancient times. Looking at the cave drawings, analyzing the symbols of the scenes imprinted on the stone walls, we can conclude that already in those ancient times there were classes and rituals, at least remotely, but still reminiscent of sports activities. And do not forget that these images were made about 30,000 years ago. There are also facts indicating that already 4000 years before our era, in China there was also an activity similar in many respects to sports. Many images and objects found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs suggest that some sports (or certain activities that fit the modern definition of sports) were developed already several millennia ago (for example, swimming). On the territory of Ancient Persia, such sports as polo (naturally, a prototype) and competitions of knights on horseback and with spears developed. In ancient Greece, there was a wide variety of sports such as wrestling, running, discus throwing and chariot racing. And it was here that such a truly unique social phenomenon as Olympism was born. Fragmented into many small policies, separate unions, confederations (constantly at war with each other), the country acquired its former national unity during the Olympic Games. Enmity was forgotten, and rivalry was manifested only in sports. In these moments, the desire to possess the perfection of the spirit and body, the desire for the harmony of the physical and intellectual in man took the form of the highest meaning of being. Over time, the sport became more organized, its new types and subspecies appeared and formed, the rules were clarified, the sport acquired its own traditions, and the number of its supporters grew. Scientific and technological progress and the industrialization of life led to the fact that people began to have more free time, and gradually this free time began to be filled with sports activities. Sport united people, filled their lives with meaning, became their world. Oh sport! You are the world! Exclaimed Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic movement, French public figure. And this phrase from his work “Ode to Sport” (1912) became winged not only for the participants of the Olympiads, but was firmly entrenched in the minds of the townsfolk. Probably due to the fact that Coubertin managed to put together the simplest words into a simple phrase, the meaning of which turned out to be global, but at the same time understandable to any person. He called sport a "messenger of peace", and he was absolutely right, because when sport walks the earth, even wars subside.
