The fifth issue of the series "Sorption processes in groundwater pollution with heavy metals and radioactive elements" is devoted to the study of the adsorption / desorption behavior of uranium. Uranium contamination of groundwater, soil and rocks is an important problem due to the long-term radioactivity and toxicity of uranium compounds as a heavy metal. The environment typically releases depleted uranium, a by-product of the enrichment process used in nuclear power generation. The review presents the mechanisms of uranium adsorption by soils and rocks depending on the nature of the absorber and various environmental conditions, as well as the kinetics of adsorption. The effect on the adsorption behavior of uranium of the characteristics of the solid and liquid phases in the "water-rock" system has been studied. The parameters of adsorption isotherms and distribution coefficients are presented. The role of microorganisms in the behavior of uranium, the conditions for its bioremediation, and the formation of geochemical barriers as a method of bioremediation of contaminated groundwater are considered. One of the practical tasks of the analytical review is to obtain information for modeling the behavior of uranium in the "water-rock" system under conditions of anthropogenic pollution.
