A unique, bilingual (Russian-German) edition of the “Italian Diary” of the outstanding Russian architect, poet and naturalist Nikolai Lvov (1751-1803).

In the biography of the remarkable Russian architect, poet and naturalist Nikolai Alexandrovich Lvov (1751-1803) the Italian journey of 1781 occupies a special place. It enriched his artistic experience, completed the formation of aesthetic tastes, and finally determined his passions and preferences.

N. A. Lvov was prepared for the trip both by his awareness of art issues and by his extensive acquaintances in the artistic environment of St. Petersburg. During the second half of the 18th century, a kind of Italian colony existed in the capital of Russia, consisting mainly of singers and musicians - N. A. Lvov’s knowledge of the Italian language obviously contributed to a rapprochement with this circle of people and the establishment of numerous friendly contacts.
