The first printed edition of the Diary, known since the late 1970s. from samizdat. Nikita Okunev's diary is a picture of Moscow life during the war and revolution. Okunev began his notes on the first day of the war in 1914, full of forebodings of great events to come; the last page was written in 1924, shortly after Lenin’s death, at the height of the NEP, when hopes, fears and horrors had already subsided and finally a “new life” was relatively firmly established... After 1924, Okunev lived for several more years, but he no longer kept a diary . After lying around until the end of the 1970s, and being read by chance, it quickly passed from reader to reader. Then it was retyped on a typewriter, and finally published by the Parisian publishing house YMCA-Press. / / / “All-Russian Memoir Library” - a series of books founded by A.I. Solzhenitsyn. Published by the YMCA-Press publishing house (Paris), and since 1995 by the Russian Path publishing house. The publishing plan was based on the manuscripts of Russian emigrants who responded to Solzhenitsyn’s call (in the Russian emigrant press) to write and preserve memoirs.
