When Nicholas II signed his abdication from the throne, the author of this book, V.V. Shulgin, was among the very few high-ranking officials who accepted this abdication. Having lived for almost 100 years, he became an eyewitness to the most turbulent historical events of the beginning of our century: the reforms of P. A. Stolypin, the First World War, Rasputinism, pre-revolutionary storms in the State Duma, the fall of the Romanov dynasty, the advent of October and the drama of the civil war. This was reflected in his memoirs “Days” and “1920” and is described as the defender of the monarchy and one of the organizers of the white movement understood everything that happened.

(Dietmar Gerhard Stüdemann)
