In the short story "Plavt in the Convent", the famous German-Swiss writer and therefore Konrad Ferdinand Meyer managed to clearly show the progressive nature of the Renaissance. The main motive of the novel is the glorification of the joy of life, the condemnation of the mortification of the flesh and monasticism, church abuses. The short story shows the struggle of the progressive ideas of the Renaissance with the dark forces of the Middle Ages, imbued with love for life and militant freethinking.
