More info

"Edinburgh Dungeon, or the Heart of Middle Lothian" (1818) refers to the so-called Scottish novels of W. Scott, which as a whole represent a gigantic epic telling about the long historical process of merging England and Scotland into one united kingdom (from the time of the English bourgeois revolution 1640-1660 and until the end of the 18th century).

Of particular interest in the novel “Edinburgh Dungeon” is the image of a simple peasant girl, Jeanie Diné, who personifies the best features of her people - their conscience, lively mind, incorruptible honesty, resourcefulness, unshakable will and natural energy.
