“Captain Rip-off” is a historical adventure novel by the French writer Louis Boussenard, written by him in 1901.

The novel tells about the war for independence of two Boer republics, Transvaal and Orange, against the British colonialists.

The image of Doctor Tromp, a humanist and fighter of the people's army, bears the features of a self-portrait of the writer. The main character of the book is the young Frenchman Jean Grandier, nicknamed Captain Rip-Head.
