More info

The author of the book is one of the very famous zoologists of the Soviet Union. The formation and development of physiological ecology in our country is associated with his name. In the book “The Life of a Zoologist,” the author talks in a lively and fascinating way about his childhood and youth, about the people who taught and raised him and helped him in his work. For half a century of research activity, which began during his school years in the circle of young biologists of the Moscow Zoo, N.I. Kalabukhov studied the phenomena of hibernation and suspended animation, the reasons for the rise in the number of rodents, their role in the spread of human diseases and other issues. He laid the foundations for the experimental study of the biological characteristics of related species of animals and contributed to the development of this direction in Soviet zoology. The ideas put forward by N.I. Kalabukhov were subsequently developed and applied in solving theoretical and practical problems by many zoologists, who have now themselves become leaders of original schools and directions. The book is richly illustrated.
