Renia is a Jewish woman of Polish origin. The pages of the diary cover several years of her life, beginning in 1939. In July 1942, plucking up her courage, Renia managed to escape from the ghetto, but was unable to hide. The Nazis found the girl in the attic of an abandoned house and shot her. Her friend Zygmunt wrote the last lines of the diary for her. After the end of World War II, Zygmunt sought out Renia's mother and younger sister in New York, who managed to survive, and handed them the diary. They dared to open it only 60 years later... In December last year, an English translation of the documentary film Broken Dreams by Polish director Tomasz Magerski was released, telling about the life of young Renia in such a dramatic time in human history, the time of the Holocaust.
