For a long time, Marshal Zhukov was a key figure in the Soviet version of the history of World War II. He was credited with the defeat of the Germans near Moscow and on the Kursk Bulge, the defense of Leningrad, he was considered the true savior of the country, allegedly opposed to the cowardly and incompetent Stalin.
