The Book of Profiles is written by the famous Russian and Soviet art critic Abram Markovich Efros (1888 - 1954). The book was published in 1930, during the author’s lifetime, with a circulation of only 3,000 copies. The book is a collection of essays about artists who were the author's contemporaries. Efros invites the reader to walk with him, as it were, through the vernissage of a large exhibition of works by 14 artists of his time: Serov, Surikov, Ostroukhov, Benois, Yuon, Kuznetsov, Sapunov, Favorsky, Chagall, Chekhonin, Rozanova, Narbut, Altman, Sternberg. Each essay is preceded by a portrait or self-portrait of the character of the essay. The subjective, emotional assessment of their work, conditioned by deep artistic knowledge, is also an example of living art. A characteristic feature of this copy of this book, emphasizing its interesting fate, is the sticker price tag of the famous London Russian book store Kniga, which was located in the period before 1940 in the Bush House building, which subsequently became the residence of BBC radio for many years.
